Meet Dee Kirchmier, Senior Event Planner!
So Dee.. can you tell us a little about yourself?
Well, I'm born and bred Virginia, specifically Richmond! I grew up south of the river in Chesterfield County and moved into the city shortly after graduating high school! I am passionate about Richmond and all this great city has to offer, especially the food and drink. When I'm not planning weddings or attending social events, you can find me hanging out with friends, CrossFitting and checking out anything that is new and local.
Do you have any fun facts?
I graduated high school a year early. I went straight from my Junior year to John Tyler Community College for dual enrollment classes and started immediately at VCU that fall. It was a lot of hard work but an experience I would not take back.
Can you tell us about your journey with McBride Events? How did you get started?
I LOVE to share my story of just how I got into this business. I had recently graduated from VCU with a degree in Mass Communications with a track of public relations. I had been working at the same corporate housing job that I started when I began at VCU and I was ready for a change. Many applications and interviews later, I ended up working at Choice Entertainment (a local wedding DJ/Band company). While at Choice Entertainment I really started to get an idea of what the Richmond wedding scene was all about, and I was hooked. At the time, Jennifer (Jenn as I've always known her) shared a small office in our building down on Mayo Island. Being the inquisitive person that I am, I would casually start popping into her office to see what she was working on and pick her brain. During one of those conversations, she said "Would you like to start assisting me on the weekends to see what its all about" or something along those lines and I very quickly, probably too enthusiastically, said yes! 11 years and countless weddings later I still get excited sharing how it all started and continuing on this journey that is McBride Events.
What is your favorite part about a wedding?
Ugh, I have to pick one?? There are SO many parts of a wedding that I consider my favorite. If I had to choose one...I guess I would say when the bride and groom turn around after the ceremony, pronounced as husband and wife and the excitement, joy, and love that crosses their faces as they walk back down the aisle. That, to me, is what its all about.
What is your favorite spot at Dover Hall?
Man, these are tough questions! I spend most of my time in the kitchen at Dover Hall but I would say that my all time favorite spot would have to be the library. I love the coziness and architecture of the space and I love books! It transports me.
Okay, last question for you. What advice do you have for future brides?
I have lots! I'll keep it simple though. Remember what it is all about. Decide on the things that are most important to you and remind yourself of those things throughout the whole process. At the end of the day, you are getting married!!!
